Hello fellow Anglers, well it is an exciting time to be a fishing guide here in Alaska on the mighty Kenai River. First we had a fun week of catch and release King Salmon fishing and other than one day the river was muddy we had a good week and caught some nice King Salmon, with low King numbers this year we are thankful for everyday we get to fish and it sounds like the numbers have been good enough that we are going to get at least another week of fishing before any closures may happen hopefully we will get good numbers this week and avoid a closure altogether fingers crossed! Next we saw decent numbers of Sockeye Salmon entering the Kenai for this early in the month which is a good indication of a strong run of Sockeye and I anticipate getting some big numbers this next week and will probably start targeting some of those big Kenai River Sockeye. Kenai River trophy Rainbow Trout fishing has slowed down now since the opener in mid June but you can still get on a few nice fish with some effort however we are are probably looking at August now for a hot Trout bite.
As for the Kasilof River I do not typically fish over there in July but reports have been good from the guys over there fishing for Sockeye as that run is in full peak at this point. Kasilof River King Salmon has been closed due to a poor return of first run King Salmon but is set to reopen to catch and release King Salmon fishing on July 15th let’s hope they have a good return on the second run of King Salmon over there.
Well that is the fishing report from here in Alaska on the mighty Kenai River and the Kasilof River, things are looking good for some great fishing and harvesting in the foreseeable future, tight lines everyone get out an enjoy Alaska’s wonderful bounty this summer on the Kenai and Kaslof Rivers.
