Hello anglers, well it is a new year and my thoughts are now beginning to shift to warm summer days fishing the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers for Salmon and Trout. 2023 will be my 36th year as a fishing guide here in Alaska, on the Kenai River and the Kasilof River. So for those of you who may read this and have not fished with Jim Rusk Fishing here in Alaska but are planning to fish with me in 2023 I want to go over a few things. First what should you bring on your Kenai River fishing trip. So here is a quick check list for reference, Thermal underwear top and bottom, hooded sweatshirt, pants, wool socks, warm coat, warm hat, ball cap, rain gear top and bottom, water proof footwear ankle or knee is fine unless planning to Sockeye fish then a set of chest waders is nice also, sun glasses, sun screen, a fishing license with King Salmon stamp if King Salmon fishing, and a small day pack to carry your lunch in each day. So that is a basic list that should cover you while fishing and keep you comfortable in any weather. The boats have lots of storage so dressing in layers works very well.
Now here is a real fast season run timing refresher. King Salmon, May, June, July, Sockeye Salmon late June, late July early August, Silver Salmon, August, September, early October, Pink Salmon August on even years. Rainbow Trout opens June 16th and can fished all season till late October.
Okay so I wanted mention that one more thing now is the time to get your trip locked down we still have many prime dates open but the best dates go first so don’t wait call me now and get your dates locked in!
