Fishing Season Begins on the Kenai River

Well, It’s official. On the Kenai River and Kasilof River fishing season begins. Although we had a cold late Spring in Alaska this year, things are slowly warming up. The rivers are rising and the King Salmon are starting to show up. Today I had my first fishing trip on the Kasilof River for the season. Although we did not land a King it felt great to be back in the drift boat and on the river. We did land a nice sea run Dolly Varden, and we just had a nice quiet afternoon on the Kasilof River.

Now the fishing season begins,  I will be back on the Kasilof River tomorrow and hopefully will be able to put a King or two on the boat. I also have the Kenai river boat in the water and I’ll have my first Kenai River charter on Friday.  I am excited to see how that goes.  Saturdays and Sunday I will be doing the first family camping trip of the year at Hidden Lake, and fishing for Lake Trout which is always a lot of fun in the spring right after the winter ice melts off the lake.

Well summer is here in Alaska and “fishing is the mission”, so tight lines and talk to you soon.

Fishing season begins on Kenai and Jim has caught his first Lake trout of the season.
