Hello Alaska Anglers, well it is late April here on the Kenai and the 2024 fishing season here in Alaska on the Kenai River and other local waters is fast approaching. The Kenai River is flowing ice free and even most of the shore ice is gone. As for the local lakes as of yesterday they still had ice but they look very close and any day they are going to open up. I am planning on my first lake trout trip of the season probably sunday or monday weather permitting. After a long Alaska winter it is going to be great to get back on the water to kick off my 38th season as a fishing guide here in Alaska. Ive been hearing good reports of Rainbow catches on the upper Kenai River. Also the saltwater is starting to pick up and the halibut catches are increasing daily. As for Salmon fishing we are still a few weeks away but it won’t be long before early run King Salmon start being caught in the Kasilof River and first run Sockeye Salmon in the Kenai River. Fingers are crossed for a warm spring this year as last year we had a cold Alaska spring. We had a heavy snow pack in Alaska this winter so we should have good water levels in the Kenai River and the Kasilof River. If you have not fished in Alaska on the Kenai before this would be a good year to come as I anticipate it will be easier to book prime dates more than usual. Bookings have been down so far for this year with myself and other guides that I work with. So give me a call and lets go fishing on the mighty Kenai River this summer.
